FAQ: What's a Polyglot?
I've gotten this question a couple of times recently.
A polyglot is someone who speaks several languages (The word comes from Greek: poly = many, glot = tongue/language)-- there isn't a specific number defined.
✨✨Now a hyperpolyglot is someone who speaks six or more languages.
I interviewed a hyperpolyglot for the podcast a while back, the lovely Habineza Antoine, based in Kigali: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lb8WCfdT48o
And I've had a couple chats with Richard, who has studied over 50 languages I believe, one of the organisers of the Polyglot Conference: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4H0h9rPbf5k
Are you a hyperpolyglot? Do you know any? ▶️▶️
