The boring secret to fluent kids 😬
Ever wonder how kids actually get fluent in another language? Here's the boring truth: there's no fancy tool or clever trick. The real key to fluency is something almost too simple to believe. 👏 Reading in the language.👏 That's it. That's the foundation of natural language acquisition — no forced memorization, no vocabulary lists your kid can memorize but never actually use. When kids read, they absorb the language in context. They see how words actually work together, not just what they mean on a flashcard. I wish I'd known this 20 years ago. Once I discovered it, kids who'd always struggled to memorize their way to fluency started understanding and speaking instead. Apps and flashcards? Fine as bonus tools — just not the foundation. So which books should you use? The ones I write for exactly this purpose. I speak 4 languages and have studied about 10, and here's the thing most people don't realize: you only need roughly 1,200–2,000 words to hold a real conversation. So every book in the series is written at that level — easy enough for your kid to understand from page one. Worried about pronunciation? Every book comes with audio in both the target language and English. This is the SPS Method™ — Story. Practice. Speak. It can feel counterintuitive if you grew up learning grammar rules first. But that rules-first approach is exactly why so many kids study a language for years and still can't speak it. Every adult polyglot I know swears by the same thing: reading works, so that's why I created this for kids...I want them to be light years ahead. How does it work? 1. Story: Kids learn through meaningful stories that make vocabulary and phrases come alive — following the adventures of Salt, Pepper & Sunny — instead of memorizing random word lists. 2. Practice :Fluency grows through consistent exposure. Kids build it by reading, listening, reviewing, and engaging with the language throughout the week. 3. Speak: The goal is real communication — the confidence to use their language, share ideas, and hold real conversations.

Webinar: The missing piece in raising a bilingual child
Our free live webinar with Katrina from Bringing Up Bilinguals is happening this Wednesday, and I wanted to share why I'm so excited about this conversation. One of the biggest questions parents ask me is: "My child is learning the language... but how do I actually help them use it?" Because fluency doesn't happen from lessons alone. It happens in the little moments at home: - When a child feels safe enough to try. - When mistakes aren't a big deal. - When language becomes part of everyday life instead of "another subject." - The good news? You do not need to be fluent yourself to create that environment. On Wednesday, Katrina and I will be sharing practical, realistic ways to encourage speaking and confidence at home—without pressure, battles, or adding more to your already busy schedule. We'll also have time for live Q&A, so if there's something you've been wondering about, just hit reply and send me your question. Webinar Details Wednesday, July 8 3:00–4:00 PM EST Live on Zoom Free If you're not inside of our community yet and want to attend this webinar for free, please email me at [email protected] to get the zoom link! See you there 🥰

This 5-Minute Podcast Gets Kids Speaking FAST
Most language classes wait WAY too long before kids actually start speaking. But when I learned other languages myself, podcasts were always the fastest way for me to start USING the language immediately — especially when they included simple stories and repetition. That’s exactly why we created our kids’ podcast. 💛 Instead of memorizing random vocabulary lists, your child hears REAL language in context and starts speaking in full sentences right away. We currently have podcasts in 9 languages, and this free episode is designed to help your child introduce themselves confidently in UNDER 5 minutes. Inside the video notes, you’ll also find a printable PDF so your child can follow along while listening! If you want your kid hearing and speaking the language from day one instead of “studying” it for years… this is the perfect place to start. Try it here and tell me how it goes!! 👇 https://go.languagemindset.com/landing
