We want calm kids but sometimes we’re the ones overwhelmed, frustrated, overstimulated, and stretched thin.
And when our nervous system is on fire… their nervous system feels it too.
So today, let’s flip the script:
Before correcting your child check in with YOU.
Ask yourself:
- Am I reacting… or responding?Reacting = emotion first.Responding = calm first.
- What am I really feeling?(Anger? Exhaustion? Fear? Feeling disrespected? Overstimulated?)
- Where do I feel this in my body?Tight chest, fast heart, headache, knot in stomach — that’s your nervous system talking.
A Simple Reset You Can Use in the Moment
When you feel triggered:
🫁 Breathe in for 4 out for 6
👀 Soften your eyes
📉 Lower your voice
🙏 Ask God to help you respond, not react
You don’t have to be perfect just aware.
Awareness is growth. Growth is healing. Healing changes homes.
Faith Lens
God is “slow to anger and rich in love.”
He models calm authority not emotional chaos.
And as parents, we get to practice that too.
What usually triggers YOU the most in parenting…
and what helps you reset?
