Collaborating in Word Without Losing Control
If you’re collaborating on a book, Track Changes in Microsoft Word is a must.
It’s perfect when sending your manuscript to a proofreader, editor, or co-writer because you can see every suggested change and stay fully in control of what’s accepted.
Even better – you can force someone to edit using Track Changes, so they have no option to make silent edits.
How to force Track Changes in Word
  1. Open your Word document
  2. Go to the Review tab
  3. Click Restrict Editing
  4. Tick Allow only this type of editing in the document
  5. From the dropdown, choose Tracked changes
  6. Click Yes, Start Enforcing Protection
  7. Set a password (optional but recommended)
Now, anyone you send the document to can only edit using Track Changes.
If you want more detail on reviewing changes, comments, or best practices for working with editors, ask AI or tag me in the comments – happy to help 😊
