Happy to share my experience as an Independent PM with this group ⤵️
Hi everyone! Happy to introduce myself: my name is Moriya Kassis, a Product Management consultant. I am happy to share my experiences (the good and the bad) as a consultant with this great group: Over the past few months, a lot of PMs I respect ***genuinely strong ones*** have reached out to me about becoming a Product Management Consultant. And the questions are (almost) always the same: • What daily rate should I charge? • How do I land my first client? • Which contract template should I use? Defiantly reasonable questions. But they’re also the wrong starting point. *** Before I explain why, the link to the Independent PM Assessment: https://moriyakassis.com/the-diagnostic-the-specialist-pm-positioning-grid/ If this topic is even on your radar, open it now and come back. *** I don’t think the goal is to “freelance.” If you’re not careful, freelancing is just employment with extra risk: no benefits, no equity, and a constant background anxiety. That’s what I call the Fractional Employee trap (bottom-left of the map below). Low leverage, because you sell time. Low authority, because you still report into someone else’s priorities. Real consulting isn’t about hourly rates. It’s about Authority and Leverage. So, I built the Independent PM Assessment. It’s not a quiz. It’s a reality check. It evaluates you across the 4 pillars of the Independent System: • Identity: do you actually know who you are? • Operations: systems, or just tasks? • Value: inputs or outcomes? • Sales: waiting… or hunting? There are 7 Independent PM archetypes. I know exactly which one I used to be just a few years ago... Your turn, now; but don’t be passive. 👉 Comment “DONE” after you’ve completed the assessment or comment “SENDING IT” if you’re committing to do it in the next 24 hours. No likes. No saves. Only actions you’re actually going to take. Deal?
