My name is Chantal, and I'm trying to refind my groove. I am an artist already, I've drawn for longer than I haven't. But lately I've had the worst art block that lasted almost 10 years. I was going through a lot and I felt like... like all my best artwork was behind me rather than in front.
I'm a digital artist by trade but painting digitally started to feel grueling. performative. It wasn't fun, so I've tried expanding my reach. I'm trying to draw "within my comfort zone" to not improve but to feel joy. To feel healing, and I think I'm starting to like drawing again.
I never did much traditional art out of "politeness". Traditional art is messy, takes up space, and you have to live with your mistakes. Digital art is way more discreet but sometimes it can be cold.
I haven't ventured out to full out painting yet, just dibble and dabbling in more pedestrian tools. Like crayons, colored pencils, and alcoholic markers.
I have been testing out watercolors but the colored pencils kind. My friend for my birthday bought me actual watercolors but I'm a little shy in trying them. Eventually I'll try it.
Here are some of the art I've done recently.
I hope we can all grow and I can learn to further expand. Not out of competition, but out of fun.
