This off-season, I’m focusing on building strength and power on the bike, and I want to share my workouts with you so you can follow along! The next 8 weeks will be all about purposeful training designed to help you become a stronger, more efficient cyclist.
Today’s session was all about improving your body’s ability to clear lactic acid and sustain power during a race:
• 8 x 30 seconds above threshold with 30 seconds recovery in between.
• After a full 5-minute recovery in Zone 1, I repeated the same 8 x 30 seconds set.
Why this matters: These short, intense intervals help your body adapt to processing lactic acid more efficiently. Over time, this translates to improved endurance and sustained power when it matters most—whether you’re climbing a steep hill or pushing hard in the final stretch of your race.
Try it out and let me know how it goes! Remember, purpose-driven training is key to making gains in the off-season.
