Day 1 Homework: Get Personal
5 Struggles:
  • I played soccer from the age of 5-22 and dedicated my whole life to the sport. It was my passion and I truly loved the game. I was raised in a faith-based home and my parents made sure to remind me that my identity was not tied to soccer, but when you pour your heart and soul into something, it shapes you and becomes a big part of your identity. I was blessed to have incredible success in soccer, reaching the highest level on the US Youth National team. After my freshman year of college soccer at Texas A&M, earning Freshman All-American accolades and a very bright future ahead, my world was flipped upside down when I tore the cartilage in my knee in the second game of my Sophomore year. I had multiple surgeries in the years following and miraculously finished playing my college career after red-shirting, but I was never the same player due to ongoing knee issues. I struggled with understanding why God would allow injuries to ruin my career and dreams of playing for the full Women’s National team and competing in the World Cup, when I knew my talent & passion was God-given.
  • Throughout my life, there have been times where I felt like people hated me, excluded me, or purposely tried to humble me for no reason. I’ve always tried to be a good person- humble, hardworking, high integrity, and loving to others. It often felt like I was rooting for everyone around me, but never felt that same support reciprocated. I’ve kept a small circle of very close friends my whole life who have been an incredible support system, but I struggle to find female friends that I can trust, who are not envious and genuinely want to see me win.
  • I would consider myself to be a very confident woman, but there are times I can feel myself dimming my own light to make other people more comfortable. I’ve been told I’m intimidating or intense, so I struggle between staying humble and stepping out in boldness into my highest purpose and calling, because I’ve experienced the hatred, jealously, and opposition to my success. I’ve felt the need to downplay my talents, skills, and beauty because of this.
  • I was in an extremely toxic work environment for 3 years in my corporate career. I had a female boss who was so intimidated by me, she made my life a living hell. She slandered me, tried to turn my own teammates against me, and actively tried to sabotage my promotion. I was angry for a long time about the way she treated me, because prior to her being my manager, we were actually friends. I thought I could trust her and that she would support me, but she stabbed me in the back over and over agin. I have forgiven her, but I struggle to completely let go of the hurt she caused and still get a little peeved every time I hear her name.
  • I struggled getting started with social media and came up with every excuse not to start. I am extremely busy as a working mom of 2, but deep down I think I knew time wasn’t really the obstacle. I could dedicate an hour of two to doing it if I really wanted it, but it was scary because I didn’t know where to start and honestly didn’t want to make a fool of myself. Judgment from other
Contrasting Wins:
  • I found new purpose by becoming a nurse. They say the best way to find yourself is in the service of others, so that’s why I initially chose a career in nursing. Losing soccer and that entire identity, I had to really anchor myself in who I was in Christ, not just a sport. Nursing lead to a career in med device sales, which changed my life completely from a financial standpoint. I fell in love with a new career, found new purpose in the mission and products I sold in the OR, and not to mention I would have never met my husband if I had continued down the soccer path. Which means I also wouldn’t have the life I have today and the beautiful 2 children I have, who mean everything to me. God had a plan all along.
  • I’ve learned that I don’t need everyone to like me or support me. My tight circle of friends and family is all I need. It has made me that much more grateful for the genuine friendships I do have and I do not take those relationships for granted.
  • I’ve learned and accepted that hatred and envy are not personal. It’s not a “me” problem, it’s a them problem. I am no longer shrinking myself and dimming my light just to make them comfortable. I know God has anointed me and his favor is upon me, so I walk in that truth and don’t take things so personal any more.
  • After constantly praying over the situation and asking God to give me a heart of forgiveness, I have reached the point where I no longer want to retaliate or expose her. I protect my peace, I leave it in God’s hands, and walk in faith knowing that God has prepared a table for me in the presence of my enemies. I use it as fuel now.
  • I took the leap of faith and finally took action. I made the decision to stop overthinking it and just do it. When the idea of working with Daniel’s team was on the table, I knew this was my opportunity to cease the moment and finally do the dang thing!
Hooks:
  • “I thought God was closing the door on my biggest dream. I didn’t realize He was opening the door to a life far greater than the one I had planned.”
  • “There’s a difference between humility and making yourself small, and I spent years confusing the two.”
  • “I’m a high-achieving woman who has competed at the highest levels of sports and built a successful career, so why was I terrified to post on Instagram?”
Hook: “There’s a difference between humility and making yourself small, and I spent years confusing the two.”
