The pain of our predecessors lives within the coding of our DNA. This is well established in clinical circles. And indigenous cultures knew it long before it was ever published in a peer reviewed paper. I just watched the series 'American Primeval' on Netflix. (I watch TV maybe one day a month and this was what I watched earlier today and it served as a nice reminder as to the BRUTALITY of our species evolutionary history- unlike any other species on the planet.) Animals eat and get eaten, yes, but the birds, bees, grass and bears have not had all out wars with their own species that spans continents.
Our bodies have not forgotten this. And right now at an evolutionary time in our species story, we have NEVER been safer. What happens when we finally become safe (especially after hundreds of thousands of years of unsafety) our body begins to release the physical, emotional & psychological pain that's been locked away and left unprocessed. Hint: it was originally locked away for the purpose of being able to do what was needed in the moment to survive.
So if you are experiencing some sort of pain or dis-ease that you can't explain or don't know why, instead of avoiding and running from it because it doesn't have a name or you don't know where it came from or what caused it, slow down, ask it what it needs. And do your best to give it to yourself.
Who knows what's on the other side of it (probably peace and purpose) but either way I invite you to get curious, be courageous, turn and face it. Go inward. Into your Inner Wilderness. And ultimately- report back what you found.
