Okay so this one I hear all the time and it actually drives me crazy a little bit.
“High volume builds muscle. High intensity builds strength.”
Not really. Here’s the thing —
You can get bigger doing low volume. You can get stronger doing high reps. It’s not about the numbers on your program. It’s about how hard you push when you’re actually in the set.
A heavy set of 5 taken to failure will build muscle. 4 sets of 12 where you stop because the timer went off and not because you had to? That’s not doing much.
The weight doesn’t matter as much as what you do with it. Are you stopping because the set is done or because you literally could not do one more rep?
That’s it. That’s the whole thing.
Stop obsessing over volume vs intensity. Start obsessing over effort. Every. Single. Set.
