“A User Story Is Not a Test Case”
A user story tells you what the customer needs. Your job as a tester is to uncover everything that must be true for that need to be delivered safely.
Example user story:
As a registered customer, I want to reset my password so that I can regain access to my account.
Before writing test cases, identify:
✅ The happy path
✅ Invalid and expired links
✅ Unregistered email addresses
✅ Password requirements
✅ Reused passwords
✅ Multiple reset requests
✅ Session behavior after the reset
✅ Error messages
✅ Mobile and browser behavior
✅ Security and privacy risks
One sentence can create dozens of meaningful test scenarios.
Comment with one scenario that other testers might overlook.
Test scenarios describe what to validate; test cases explain precisely how to validate it.
