A lesson from David...
When we think about King David, most of us go straight to his victory over Goliath.
⭐ Strength
⭐ Courage
⭐ Victory
⭐ Calling
That is the moment we remember.
But what is crazy to think about is that David never even tells us about that battle.
We do not learn that story from David or from anything he personally wrote in Scripture.
The story of David and Goliath comes from the book of Samuel, written by someone else.
When David does write, he does not focus on victories at all.
🙏 He focuses on weakness
🙏 He cries out for mercy
🙏 He admits fear
🙏 He repents of adultery
🙏 He owns his sin
🙏 He shows a deep and constant dependence on God
David never built his relationship with God in the moment he defeated a giant.
He built it...
🕳️ In caves
🕳️ In failure
🕳️ In repentance
🕳️ In a desperate need for God’s presence
That matters.
Because many of us come to God hoping for a David and Goliath moment.
✨ The breakthrough
✨ The win
✨ The story people will celebrate
But God often seems far more concerned with who we are becoming than with what others will remember us for.
David’s public legacy was "victory".
David’s private faith was surrender.
And maybe that is the reminder some of us need today.
God does not just want to use us in our strengths. He wants to meet us in our weaknesses and change us there.
