Negative Friend

I have this friend that I enjoy talking to...but damn. He was so negative today. His view on everything was negative. His business isn't blossoming, everything is too expensive, manifesting/meditating doesn't do shit, God doesn't answer his prayers, etc. etc. etc. I asked him if there is anything he is grateful for? His response, no. Just was such a drain on me. I told him that I needed to leave because his negative attitude was killing me. I feel bad that I just left, but damn...I don't want to hear it, and I have no idea how to give him advice. Everything I say I get shut down at.

Now I question, do things get better? Is there anything I can do for my friend? Honestly right now, I just want to avoid him. I don't want that strain on me. What do you guys think?
