For so long, we confuse being a good person with being a limitless container for everyone else's expectations. We carry their demands so closely that we forget how exhausting the load has actually become.

Finally reaching the point where you simply no longer care is not an act of coldness. It is a vital, necessary release. It is the sudden, clear realization that you were never assigned the job of managing their happiness or permanently preventing their disappointment.

Putting down that heavy weight might look like a rebellion to them, but to you, it is just coming home. Let them be upset. Guard your inner sanctuary and leave their noise at the door.
