This interview with Julio Velasco is something very special for me.
Julio Velasco is one of the greatest volleyball coaches in history and has influenced generations of coaches—not only in volleyball but across many sports. His teams, especially the Italian national team in the 1990s, dominated international volleyball for years. But even more important than his titles is the way he thinks about coaching, leadership, and team culture.
Even though I have never had the chance to meet him personally, he is one of the coaches who has influenced me the most. Meeting him one day is definitely on my personal bucket list.
In this interview, Velasco talks about his philosophy as a coach, about responsibility, team dynamics, and what really lies behind sustainable success. His ideas go far beyond tactics or technique—it’s about leadership, mindset, and the daily work of a coach.
For me, this is an interview that every coach—no matter the sport—should watch.
