Winning Culture
Do you have any experience with creating a winning culture? I just read this very insightful paper, on what highly successful coaches did when faced with a surprisingly low-performing season, as I wondered how to establish a desirable culture within a team? Critical reflection, communication, clear guidelines for orientation and focusing on the basics are just some of the major issues highlighted here. My question is: do you have a winning culture within your team? Did you actively develop it (or take measures to support such a culture? Or was it something you've found when arriving at your club? I´d love to hear your thoughts on this!

@Timo Issing thanks for the paper 2 great books. about cultures I really like. The Captain Class, by Sam Walker This is a great book about winning cultures in a team, and how important one particular player sometimes is!! Win Forever, by Pete Carroll In my opinion it`s really hard to build without the right players. https://www.netflix.com/title/81725526 In the Dallas Cowboys Documentary they show it great how it can shift instantly with or without one player!!!

@Timo Issing not really active, because it can't be forced. I made meetings where we wrote down our values and what we stand for. There you can see what the team wants....(for good or bad😊) I talked to every player about their objectives (for good or bad 😅) If they say they want to win or get better, you have to show them what they have to do (or what some of them can do) If somebody just plays for fun you have to accept it or get rid of him/her. If they want to get better, great, but they have to work for it. If they just talk...accept it, or get rid of them 😅 It's a process...but in the end your key players have to be winners and they have to set the standards, not you. You have to accept the situation where you are right now and work around it.

I had a free weekend and used the time to recharge my batteries.I’m happy to be back on the court today — even though it’s a holiday. I hope my players feel the same and that we can start the week with full energy, with an important game coming up on Sunday. It also reminded me of something Luis Enrique once said about how important it is to train as little as possible. But that balance is not easy. As coaches, we always feel the need to train more to improve. I made a deal with my players: we take days off — but the first session back has to be at the highest level. Not a slow start, not easing into it — full focus from the first minute. Let’s see if that actually happens today… otherwise I might have to rethink the deal 😉

#No Zombies Warm up
In the decisive phase of the season, mindset matters. And it often starts earlier than we think: 👉 in the warm-up. I keep coming back to ideas from Rett Larson. Not because I copy everything 1:1…but because it gives me inspiration to sometimes do something a bit crazy, different, unexpected. And that’s the point: 👉 players enjoy it 👉 they are switched on 👉 and they are fully ready for training Warm-up is not just getting loose. It's already setting the tone. If you’re looking ideas: https://www.instagram.com/rettasaurus/ https://rettsmembership.uscreen.io/about And combining that with our webinar from last year… that’s where it really clicks. 👉 How does your warm-up look right now?

Thursday Question ??
Tomorrow we’ll have our next Coaches Table, and this will be our topic: How and when do you give feedback to players, coaches, and staff? Feedback is one of the most powerful tools we have as coaches — but also one of the most delicate ones. - Do you give feedback during the drill, or prefer to wait until breaks or after practice? - How do you decide between individual vs. team feedback? - Do you focus more on positive reinforcement or corrective feedback? - How do you adapt your feedback depending on the age, level, or personality of your players? - And what about feedback within the staff — how open and direct are you there? There’s probably no perfect answer, but a lot of different approaches shaped by experience, culture, and context. What are your thoughts? Drop them in the comments 👇

@Timo Issing do you focus more on tactical or technical feedback during the week? How do you do it in games?

A great post from Jake Lister about Interaction with players and giving feedback. I think we all are guilty in that sense... https://www.linkedin.com/posts/activity-7444658525370355712-0qkB?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_desktop&rcm=ACoAAAaEIQMB7ed62V28n15B9hc7_9vtUAG5QVw
