Beard is way easier to fade, just use bigger guidelines. For beard on the sides I went 0 --> no guard --> 0.5 --> 1 --> 2, and then where my mouth / goatee area is I did a number 3. That way your beard tapers down. My friends said it looked professional, especially after the straight razor line up.
