When I was just getting started, I dove in with excitement and planted a mix of fast-growers: radish, kale, and mustard. I had read you needed to keep the seeds “dark and humid” for the first few days.
So, naturally, I put my trays in my cold, damp basement.
I figured I was doing everything right. After four days, there were no sprouts. Just… nothing. I started to panic — bad seeds? Wrong method?
Then I saw it.
Growth!
But not microgreens… it was molding a thick, fluffy blanket across every tray.
Turns out my basement was too cold, too wet, and I had overwatered. The perfect storm for spores, not sprouts.
Needless to say, I tossed the whole “crop,” learned a ton, and now grow in a clean, controlled space.
No more moldy experiments in the dungeon.
