Critter Battle
I am in a constant battle against critters. Sept/Oct the main enemy troupes are unleashed in me. I live in California at about 4000 feet elevation.
This time of year the deer get really hungry. Everything is dried up. They are tired of eating acorns. They get really aggressive. There's one buck who is my nemesis. He snorts at me when he sees me.
They are amazingly agile and relentless. He got in and destroyed my first fall planting. He bashed a part of the fence and a doe got in and finished it off.
I raised the fence height to 8 feet and fixed the weak points. I think I have them locked out but may need to go another foot.
Yesterday I put in lettuce and was dismayed to find it all pulled up and nibbled down this morning. Could not find deer tracks so I think this was a rabbit. Peas were not eaten. Deer tend to get everything.
Anyone have theories on which enemy got in?
Fortunately we got a good rain yesterday. This will start greening things up and satiate them a bit. But then the gophers will wake up.
My wife says I do a good job of providing for the critters but that leaves me hungry
