Does anyone else struggle with this?
I sometimes doubt myself as a groomer because I don’t own any sort of purebred dog. This probably sounds really silly. But I look at so many big dog groomer influencers or master groomers, and they have these beautiful standard poodles, bichons, kerry blue terriers, bouvier des flandres, and bedlington terriers.
I love my little shih tzu mix, but sometimes I consider getting a second dog to try to help me elevate my grooming skill at home. To have a dog I could practice breed standard trims on, that I could do more experimental grooming with, and actually maintain their coat.
For context, my own pup unfortunately has an enlarged heart, 6/6 grade murmur, and CHF, so I cannot risk putting her through unnecessary added stress. I try to keep her grooms minimal and comfortable.
