Why do you grow weed?
I've done a lot of thinking recently about why different people get into growing.
For some, it's all about having access to affordable cannabis. Others it's all about pursuing quality. And for a surprisingly large chunk, they do it just for the fun of growing a cool plant that they used to not be able to (you'd actually be surprised how many people grow weed and don't consume it or do anything with it besides give it away).
But I want to know, what makes YOU want to start growing?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For me personally, I've always had a mild interest in cannabis. When I started consuming for the first times it was just something fun to do and try out. Over time I got exposed to the crazy world of different strains with different smells, tastes, effects, etc and thought it was super cool how varied of an experience you can get, and how certain weed could be tailored for certain things.
What really changed my view was getting exposed to some of the really high end cannabis . . . I'm talking weed that's sold for $500+ / oz and that's if you're even able to find it (it sells out remarkably quick from the growers / brokers). I still remember some of those batches of "special" weed that totally changed my perspective of what cannabis is, and what it can do.
Some of the smells blew me away, and instantly had me recognize certain scents with things I've smelled previously in life in super specific ways. It's kind of hard to describe but I'm talking weed that smells like soggy fruit loops at the end of a cereal bowl. Not fresh fruit loops. Not fruit flavored smell. But identical to the end of that cereal bowl. It gets weirdly specific and it's really hard to describe, but if you've ever had a similar experience you'll understand what I mean. Something just clicks in your brain and brings back a memory.
The taste was the same way. I realized that you can consume weed and not get that "shitty smoke taste" in your mouth (once again the only way I know how to describe it). I found myself constantly wanting to try more and the joint getting tastier the further down I got and sometimes changing flavor. This is a really hard one to understand as well unless you've had it, but there's some weed that can literally taste like candy and coats your mouth with that flavor.
And then of course there's the effects and potency . . . I really had to re-learn how to dose things properly. I always thought more and more was better until I got into the world of high-end weed. It'll humble you. It doesn't take a lot, and you can get some really unique experiences out of it. I've had cannabis that makes you feel like you're almost floating and very blissful, and I've had cannabis that makes my mind run wild and brings anxious thoughts up to the surface immediately. Not every strain is for me, but when I try new ones I like to see them done at the highest level because it shows the truest expression of each strain, and lets me get the best picture of what works for me, and what doesn't.
(If you've never tried smoking some super high end weed, in the dark, with maybe a little music, you're missing out. It's seriously one of my favorite practices and gets borderline meditative. It's not how I always consume but it's how I test all of my weed. A small joint in the nighttime, sitting with myself and my thoughts.)
In fact, the reason I got started with living soil and organic cultivation was because of these really cool experiences I've had. A vast majority of the people who I saw doing things at the absolute highest level, were doing living soil grows with some really unique perspectives. Naturally, I decided to follow along and try to learn as much as I possibly could because they were obviously doing something right.
From there, I fell in love with the process of growing plants of any kind and learning more about how mother nature keeps things in order and allows life to flourish. The more I learn, the more blown away I am by the natural systems in place and how complicated they are, but how simple it is to practice.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All of that is a really long way of saying . . .
I grow weed so I can access some of those really unique, really enjoyable experiences for a reasonable price. I don't have the income to rationalize spending ridiculous amounts of money on cannabis, so instead I grow it. I've found it's even more enjoyable when you do it yourself and get to see the whole process.
I'm always on the hunt for improving things, and getting as close as I can to that remarkably high bar that was set for me, based on some of the super cool experiences I've been able to have.
Being able to share some of those experiences with friends & loved ones is super rewarding for me, and all the other many benefits from gardening & growing just happened to come with it!
If you've read this far, I'd love to hear your own story of how you ended up here or what you enjoy about cannabis or growing! It doesn't have to be a long story like mine . . .
