Below are my notes from the talk gave on Day 1 of the Skool Costa Rica Talk IRL: 1. Skool = Community Platform with Business Features
To make a community thrive, you have to unlearn traditional business strategies.
Communities arenβt built on funnels(or just funnels) theyβre built on connection!
2. Community and Business Alignment
- Both need one shared mission or purpose that everyone rallies around.
- The frequency and quality of how often you interact with people who share that purpose determine your success.
- Your offer may evolve, but your brand, what you believe in, should stay constant. Dig deep into your convictions and let your authenticity shine.
- KEY: Thin out the crowd and double down on what you truly believe. Let your freak flag fly.
3. Community Dynamics
- A strong community creates inside jokes, shared language, and superfans.
- These things make outsiders form strong opinions, which is a good sign of resonance.
- Humor helps humanize your brand and deepen belonging.
4. Focus on Transformation, Not Transactions
- Lead with curiosity and a commitment to transformation.
- If you create real change for people, ascension and sales happen naturally.
- Money flows from transformation and belonging, not just from offers.
5. Brand Expression and Culture
- Every touchpoint, your posts, community discussions, classroom vibe, email signature, calendar, and even your choice of emojis, should reflect your brandβs values and culture.
- This builds familiarity and emotional connection.
6. Free Community Strategy
- The purpose of a free community is nurture, not conversion.
- Many members wonβt be qualified when they join.
- Your job is to help them grow, align with your values, and become your ideal client over time.
- Once nurtured, conversion happens naturally.
