Olá, bom dia ALEGRIA!
This Sunday the clocks go back: at 2am it becomes 1am again, and we all get an extra hour in bed.
But anyone who’s lived here a while knows that in Portugal, time already bends. When someone says “já vou!” (coming!), they might be at the door in a second, or in twenty minutes. “Daqui a bocadinho” (in a little while) is the most elastic phrase in the language.
Today’s sheet, Nº 21: As Horas, is in the classroom. It has four phrases for telling the time, and a guide to what “fluid time” really means. Over to you: what’s the longest “bocadinho” you’ve ever waited?
Até já! 😉
