Intimacy starts with the small thing. Recently I’ve been struggling with my intimacy with God. Crying out “ABBA, I want to know you deeper,” but not having the wisdom to begin with the small thing. Last night, while on my date with God, I said “Lord, I just want to feel connected to you again…teach me how to get near you.” His response blew me away… He told me to have dinner with my daughter, without any cell phones or electronics. 😳😳😳 So in the middle of my date with God, I called to my daughter, told her what the Lord had said, and we had dinner together. I realized how awkward it was as I had dinner with my daughter, (and I’m literally crying as I write this). We live in the same home, and yet we have no intimacy with one another. The Lord said to me, “Do you see?” I realized as I had an awkward dinner with my daughter, that this is the same disconnected feeling I shared with God. Not because we aren’t in the company of one another (living in the same home), but rather, because we don’t have regular fellowship with one another. Intimacy starts with the small thing. The Lord assured me: as awkward as it was to have dinner with my daughter, a seed of intimacy has still been sown. And after a seed is sown, you have to show up daily to water it, nurture it, and watch it grow. When we struggle with our intimacy with God, start with the small thing. Show up daily. Fellowship. And watch your intimacy deepen.
