The Father's Love: Not Because of Jesus, But the Reason FOR Jesus
Most believers have this backwards. They think Jesus is the loving one, and the Father is the harsh judge barely holding back wrath—like He's just tolerating you because Jesus is covering for you. But that's not the gospel. John 3:16 doesn't start with "Jesus loved the world." It starts with "God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son." The Father loved you enough to send Jesus. The Father's love is the reason Jesus came, not the result of Jesus coming. Here's what changes everything: James 1:17-18 says, "Every good thing given and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow. In the exercise of His will He brought us forth by the word of truth." Notice three things: 1. "Father of lights" - He fathered the sun, moon, and stars. He's Creator over the universe. 2. "No variation or shifting shadow" - Unlike creation (day/night, light/darkness), God is perfect light at all times. A nurturing, good, perfect Father. 3. "In the exercise of His will He brought us forth" - Not by your decision. By His. The Father actively loved you, chose you, brought you into His family. The Old Testament already reveals this: - Malachi 2:10: "Do we not all have one father? Has not one God created us?" - Psalm 89: David crying out, "You are my Father, my God, and the rock of my salvation" - 2 Samuel 7: God's covenant promise, "I will be a father to him and he will be a son to Me" The fatherhood of God isn't a New Testament innovation—it's woven throughout all of Scripture. Here's the devastating trap many fall into: We think the Father only loves us for Jesus' sake—like He can't wait to judge us if it weren't for Jesus covering us. But the truth is: The Father sent Jesus BECAUSE the Father loves you. First. Deeply. Eternally. All three persons of the Trinity—Father, Son, and Spirit—work in perfect harmony because all three love you. The Father's plan, the Son's mediation, the Spirit's finalization.
