How I Almost Got Fleeced Selling My Own Car I spent weeks trying to sell my BMW. Tyre kickers. Stupid offers. Dealerships offering me nothing. Finally found a dealer who offered a fair price. Drove the car to them. Signed the contract. Agreed $15,500. Delivered the vehicle in the exact condition they inspected and accepted. Then waited four days for payment that never came. Every time I called — it’s in the mail, check your spam, it’s with management, it’s being processed. Then suddenly — after four days of nothing — they raised an oil leak as a reason to pay less. Here’s what I want you to know: They inspected the car before signing. The contract was signed. The price was agreed. A mechanical issue they could have identified at inspection has no legal basis to change the deal. I sent a letter of demand yesterday. The lesson: always get a signed contract. Know your rights.
