I keep in touch with some of the cops and firemen who were part of my private real estate investment buyers group.
Last week, I got a call from a retired police officer I had sold eight houses to. He was a lieutenant when he bought his first property, and by the time he got his eighth, he had been promoted to captain. I sold him those houses over 20 years ago for $100,000 to $150,000 each. Today, every single one of them is paid off and worth between $700,000 and $800,000 each. His portfolio is now worth around $6 million.
He’s also retired from the police department, and he called to thank me for making him a multimillionaire. I told him, “I didn’t make you a multimillionaire. Time and leverage did that.”
To all the young wholesalers out there: keep a few houses for yourself. Let the magic of time and leverage do the same for you. You’ll thank yourself later.
