From Side Hustle to Serious Business: My 4-Year Journey to Building a Profitable Company
Hey everyone, I'm excited to share my entrepreneurial journey with you! For the past four years, I've been on a wild ride running my own company. It's been a mix of exhilarating highs and humbling lows, but through it all, I've gained a ton of valuable insights on what it takes to truly thrive in the business world. Let's be honest, in the beginning, I wasn't exactly giving it my all. It was more of a "side hustle" than a serious venture. And guess what? The results reflected that. Things were just okay, never really reaching their full potential. But a year ago, I decided it was time to take things to the next level and make my business a profit machine. This meant stepping up my game in a few key areas: hiring the right people, building a strong network, and implementing solid processes. Here's the thing: there's no magic bullet for success. It's all about taking the right actions for your specific business. Lessons Learned in the Trenches 1- Ditch the Quick Fix: Sure, chasing short-term gains might seem tempting, but trust me, it will hurt you in the long run. Building a sustainable business takes time and dedication. 2- People Power: Your team is the backbone of your business. Don't settle for just okay! Take the time to interview multiple candidates (yes, even 20, 30, or 50!) to find the perfect fit. A well-defined hiring process is crucial for scaling your business and avoiding the dreaded "hiring loop." 3- Become the Referral Machine: Provide such incredible service that your customers become your biggest fans, raving about you to their network. In my case, a whopping 35% of our revenue comes from repeat customers and referrals – that's the power of word-of-mouth marketing! 4- Find Your Niche: Don't try to be everything to everyone. Identify your ideal customer and tailor your offerings to their specific needs. For example, we focus solely on businesses and freelancers who want to provide services to the US and UK markets. 5- Social Media Savvy: Meet your ideal customer where they hang out online! Explore different platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, and even TikTok to see where your audience spends their time. (For us, Facebook turned out to be the goldmine!)
