Cultural Sensitivity: Unconscious Bias
Unconscious bias can shape clinical judgment, communication, and decision-making in subtle but meaningful ways. In this session, Makenzie Sandler explores how implicit biases develop and how they may impact interactions with clients, families, and colleagues in ABA.
Participants will review relevant BACB Ethics Code standards related to equity, cultural responsiveness, and professional conduct while learning practical strategies to recognize and mitigate personal bias. The presentation also incorporates concepts from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), helping participants identify their values and examine how behavior aligns with those values in professional settings.
Through reflection, discussion, and real-world examples, attendees will gain tools to support more thoughtful, ethical, and culturally responsive decision-making.
