One of the most valuable lessons of my life came from someone trying to hurt me. It was more than twenty years ago. My fashion brand was doing exceptionally well and reaching a beautiful point of success when someone did something that could have seriously damaged my name and credibility. I was young. It hurt. And I wasn’t quite sure how much attention I should give to what was happening. I remember speaking to one of my biggest customers at the time, a woman I deeply respected and trusted. She said something very simple to me: “Keep your head down. Focus on the good work you are doing. Don’t worry about these people.” Something about the sincerity with which she said it went straight into me. So I did exactly that. I disengaged from the noise. I stopped giving my attention to what this person was trying to create and brought it back to myself. My work. My integrity. My heart. What I was here to create. And something remarkable happened. Within days, the whole situation became almost nothing. But what stayed with me was the lesson. **Where I put my energy is where my life grows.** Had I poured my energy into defending myself, fighting, explaining, worrying about what people thought or trying to control the situation, I would have been feeding the very thing I wanted to disappear. Instead, I fed what mattered. And that grew. My work eventually tripled that year. My life began moving in directions I could never have planned for myself. And what began as one piece of advice became a way of living. I started bringing my attention more deeply inward. Listening to myself. Staying close to my own truth. Becoming more aligned with who I was. Acting from that centered place rather than constantly reacting to what was happening around me. Over time, this took me on an extraordinary journey. The deeper I went into myself, the more space there was for what was true in me to express itself. And life began to meet that truth in ways far more beautiful than anything I could have orchestrated.
