It's taken you quite a long time to form your bad habits so as you could imagine forming a good and healthy habit doesn't happen overnight either. In my personal experience when I get off track a full 31 straight days of hitting my routine every day without skipping helps me get back on track. This doesn't mean you're going to the gym to max out your squats every day. This just means you're starting a routine and sticking to it every day for 31 days.

For years I maintained a status quo while making little to no progress in the gym and as I approached the age of 40 I had chronic joint pain especially in my knees and lower back.
