Non profit documentary - 80s Funk Legacy
Hello everyone! I'm Mel – excited to join this community of storytellers. I’m a documentary filmmaker passionate about music, culture, and history—and I’m thrilled to finally share my latest project with you all: 🎬 Let’s Funk Tonight: A Journey Through 80s Funk Music🕺 A non-profit deep dive into the groove, soul, and legacy of 80s funk. This film was my heart and soul for over a year and three months—a labor of love completed in 2024. It includes: - 25+ artists - 7 interviews across 2 continents - Music legends, rare archive material, and a celebration of the cultural impact of funk. 📍 It explores: - The roots of funk in California and the East Coast - The rise of Brit Funk and international crossover acts - Icons like The Whispers, D-Train, SKYY, Shalamar, Kool & The Gang, Earth Wind & Fire, and more - TV’s role in music history, with a special look at Soul Train 🎧 If you’re into music docs, retro storytelling, or experimenting with archival+interview-driven structure—I’d love your feedback. ➡️ Please check it out on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YcXXM6Ufx30📣 Leave a comment, ask me questions, or let me know what resonated with you.✨ I'm especially curious: Would you like to see a Part 2? Or a deeper dive into a specific funk subculture? Thanks for watching and supporting independent docs!#LetsFunkTonight #80sFunk #DocumentaryFilm #MusicDocs #FunkLivesOn
Would you want 1x month group calls?
I am curious who would show up if I would host monthly group chats, to discuss documentaries, our projects and industry.
