Myth Monday: Pigmentation Edition
Pigmentation is one of the most misunderstood skin concerns, and there are a lot of myths floating around online.
Myth:“Pigmentation will fade on its own if you just exfoliate enough.”
Truth:Pigmentation is not simply a buildup of dead skin cells. It occurs when specialised skin cells called melanocytes produce excess melanin.
This can be triggered by several factors, including:
☀️ Sun exposure
🔥 Heat
🧬 Hormonal changes
⚡ Inflammation in the skin (such as acne)
Because of this, treating pigmentation effectively often requires a combination of the right skincare ingredients, sun protection, and sometimes professional treatments.
Over-exfoliating can actually irritate the skin and stimulate melanocytes further, which may make pigmentation worse.
