Jim's Dad Left a Will. They Thought They Were Safe.
There's a story I tell in my new YouTube video that I can't stop thinking about. It's about Jim, a friend of mine here in Austin. Jim spent his whole life working, building, providing. Before he died, he did what responsible people do—he hired an attorney and created a will. He believed his family was protected. He was wrong. And he never knew. His kids sat in probate court for years. Legal fees ate into everything he'd built. A family that loved each other started fighting over what was left. One document. One blind spot. One lifetime of work—diminished. I made this video because I've seen this story play out too many times. In a month, my first grandchild will be born. I cannot express how much this impacts the way I view legacy. Your legacy is the last thing your kids will remember you for. And your grandkids. If you have a will and no trust, this video is for you. I'm not here to scare you—I'm here to give you the truth nobody told you, and the path forward.

"We Don't Have Any Money!"
I was maybe 10 years old when my little sister turned around in the front pew of our church, spread her palms wide, and announced to the entire row behind us: "We don't have any money." The pew exploded. My parents wanted to disappear. She wasn't wrong. Papa was a general contractor. Great at what he did. When a contract came in, money flooded the house. When it dried up, so did everything else. There was no plan. No investing (at least that I knew of). No protection for the gaps. Just feast, then famine, then survive. I watched that cycle my entire childhood. It's one of a few reasons I'm obsessed with what happens to families when there's no plan—not just while you're alive, but after. The families we work with solved the income problem. Built real wealth. But without a funded plan, that wealth doesn't go to their family—it first gets siphoned off by a court, a judge, and a lawyer billing by the hour. New video. Worth 12 minutes 🌳
