Most “traditional” PD (think: sit-and-get, one-and-done workshops) shows little impact on classroom practice or student learning—even when teachers rate it as “good.”
What actually moves the needle? Professional learning that is:
- Focused on specific content and instructional practices
- Job-embedded in real classroom work
- Active (teachers practicing, analyzing, and designing)
- Supported with coaching and feedback
- Sustained over time—not a single event
If your PD doesn’t check those boxes, you don’t have professional learning yet…you have a meeting.
Remember to go the extra MILE to Motive, Inspire, Lead, and Empower.
