💙 Hello everyone, I'd love to properly introduce myself. 💙
My name is Jessica, and I'm so happy you're here. I'm a proud mum of six amazing children, a grandmother to four beautiful grandchildren, and I've been with my wonderful partner for 12 years. Our family's journey with diabetes began when my partner was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. Like many families, we had no idea just how much our lives would change. We had to completely rethink the way we ate, planned our meals, and looked after our health. I spent hours researching diabetes, learning about healthy foods, reading recipes, and talking with family members who also live with diabetes. I wanted to make sure I was doing everything I could to support my partner and help him live a healthier life. One experience I'll never forget happened while we were camping. My partner suddenly started acting differently. He didn't know what was happening and seemed confused. I stayed calm and started asking him a few simple questions. Then it clicked—it could be his blood sugar. I quickly made him a warm Milo and a jam sandwich to help raise his blood sugar. As soon as we got home, I contacted our doctor and asked for an urgent appointment. I also requested a finger-prick blood glucose monitor so we could start checking his blood sugars ourselves and be better prepared if it happened again. That experience taught us just how important it is to understand diabetes and to recognise the signs when blood sugar levels are too low or too high. It also showed me how important it is to stay calm and act quickly. This community means so much to me because I know we're not alone. Diabetes can be overwhelming at times, but together we can learn, encourage one another, share recipes, celebrate our wins, and support each other through the hard days too. Thank you for being here and for being part of this amazing community. I hope this becomes a place where everyone feels welcome, supported, and never judged. I'd love to get to know you too! 💙 ✨ Tell us a little about yourself: • Where are you from?

💙 Why Does Diabetes Make It Harder to Heal?
Have you ever noticed that a small cut or sore seems to take much longer to heal when you have diabetes? You're not imagining it—there's a real reason for this. When blood sugar levels stay high over time, they can: 🩹 Slow the body's natural healing process. 🩸 Reduce blood flow, meaning less oxygen and fewer nutrients reach the wound. 🦠 Make it harder for your immune system to fight infections. 💙 Damage nerves, so you may not feel a cut, blister, or sore until it has become more serious. This is why looking after your skin and feet is so important. Simple ways to protect yourself: ✅ Check your feet every day for cuts, blisters, redness, or swelling. ✅ Wash and dry your feet carefully, especially between your toes. ✅ Moisturise dry skin, but avoid putting cream between your toes. ✅ Wear well-fitting shoes and clean socks. ✅ Try to keep your blood sugar levels within your target range. ✅ Clean and cover any cuts or scrapes as soon as possible. ⚠️ If you notice a wound that isn't healing, becomes red, swollen, painful, or starts leaking fluid, don't wait. Contact your doctor, nurse, or diabetes care team as soon as possible. Early treatment can prevent serious complications. 💬 Let's support one another. Have you ever had a cut or sore that took a long time to heal because of diabetes? What advice would you give to someone newly diagnosed? Your experience could help someone else in our community. 💙
