When I first started my business, there was SO much I didn't know.
And almost four years later?
There's still SO much I don't know. 😂
Welcome to entrepreneurship!
Today, I had a consultation with a young man who had been in business for over a year. During our conversation, we discussed sales tax and the possibility that his business needed to be collecting and remitting it.
He had no idea.
And that's the lesson.
There are things about running a business that you don't know that you don't know.
Every state is different.
Every industry is different.
Every business has its own nuances.
That's why one of the most valuable habits you can develop as an entrepreneur is simply:
Keep asking questions.
Ask your bookkeeper.
Ask your CPA.
Ask your attorney.
Ask other business owners.
Ask people who have already done what you're trying to do.
And don't feel like you should have everything figured out just because you've been in business for a while.
Entrepreneurship is a constant cycle of:
Learn → Apply → Ask → Improve → Repeat
Four years from now, I expect I'll know a LOT more than I know today.
And I'll probably discover a whole new list of things I still don't know.
That's part of the journey.
