Altseason upcoming?
Something interesting just happened in the derivatives market: altcoin open interest just flipped Bitcoin's, for the first time since December '24. In plain terms, open interest = the total amount of leveraged/speculative positions sitting open on futures markets. For most of the past year, BTC has dominated that number. Now, for the first time in almost 2 years, alts (as a group) have more speculative capital parked in them than Bitcoin does. Worth being clear on what this does and doesn't tell us: it says nothing about direction, this isn't bullish or bearish on its own, it just shows where leverage is flowing. But historically, this kind of shift has lined up with the early stages of what people call "alt season", a period where alts start outperforming BTC. Not a signal to ape in, just a data point worth tracking closely over the next few weeks

Altseason upcoming?
What is ''Clarity Act'', And Why is it Important?
Everyone in crypto keeps saying "Clarity Act" like it's obvious what that means. It isn't. So here's the actual story, and why it matters more than most news you'll scroll past this week. For years, the SEC and CFTC have fought over who gets to regulate which token, and that fight has mostly played out through lawsuits, not clear rules. Companies have had to guess which law applies to them, sometimes finding out the hard way, in court. The Clarity Act finally puts an actual rule in place. If a network is genuinely decentralized, meaning no single party can still steer it, the token falls under the CFTC as a "digital commodity." If its value still depends on an issuer actively working to make it succeed, it stays SEC territory as an "investment contract." That sounds technical, but the effect isn't. Banks and asset managers have stayed on the sidelines for years partly because they couldn't get a straight answer on which rules would apply to them. Once that answer exists in law instead of in someone's legal opinion, that hesitation has a lot less reason to stick around. It's already moved further than most crypto bills ever have. The House passed it in July 2025, 294 to 134. The Senate committee passed it in May 2026, 15 to 9. The next real test is September 15, a procedural vote that needs 60 senators just to open debate. If it fails there, the bill is effectively dead for the year. None of this means prices jump the day it passes. What it means is the market stops being shaped case by case through enforcement, and starts being shaped by an actual law. That kind of shift doesn't show up on a chart tomorrow. It shows up years later, in how much serious money was willing to show up at all.

Alt Season: why everyone's talking about it, and why it might disappoint this time
Everywhere I go, online and offline, I hear the same word: alt season. Everyone's waiting for it, everyone has an opinion on it, and most people saying it don't actually know what they're waiting for. So let's straighten that out first, and then look at why I think this time might play out differently than most people are hoping. What alt season actually is: Alt season is the period when altcoins, everything except Bitcoin, clearly outperform Bitcoin itself. There's even an index for it: the Altcoin Season Index, which measures how many of the top 50 altcoins have outperformed Bitcoin over the past 90 days. Above 75, you're officially in alt season. Below 25, you're in what's called "Bitcoin season": capital flows into Bitcoin, altcoins lag behind. The logic is simple. Bitcoin attracts capital first because it's the most liquid, most trusted asset. Once people take profit on Bitcoin and go looking for more upside, some of that money rotates into altcoins. Those tend to move harder in both directions, so in a good stretch an altcoin can do in weeks what Bitcoin does in months. Why it's such a hot topic right now: That's not coming from nowhere. The last two cycles, 2017 and 2021, both had a clear alt season where a broad range of altcoins significantly outperformed Bitcoin. Anyone who lived through what that did to a portfolio is now waiting for a repeat. That's human and logical: you expect a pattern that showed up twice to show up a third time. On top of that, Bitcoin hit a new all-time high around $126,000 in October 2025. Moments like that always spike interest in "what happens next," and historically the answer was often: altcoins go on a run. So search volume for "alt season" and "when is alt season coming" jumped, exactly as you'd expect. Why I think this time it happens less, or maybe not at all Here's where it gets interesting, and this is where my own doubt sits. While Bitcoin was hitting that $126,000, the biggest altcoins weren't. Ethereum, BNB, XRP, Solana, and Tron were sitting roughly 60 percent below their own previous all-time highs at that same moment. That's the opposite of what happened in 2017 and 2021, when altcoins moved with, or even ahead of, Bitcoin's top.
