📣Weekly Reset - Calling and Purpose in the Work of Our Hands
Each week on Friday, I'll be sharing a weekly faith-filled photography reset devotional to encourage you and challenge you as a business owner! This is the first of many! I hope you're encouraged, friend! Calling and Purpose in the Work of Our Hands Scripture: Ephesians 2:10 In Ephesians chapter two, Paul is reminding believers in Ephesus of the foundation of the Christian life. Earlier in the passage, he makes it very clear that salvation is not something we earn through our efforts. In verses eight and nine he writes that we are saved by grace through faith and that this salvation is a gift from God, not the result of our works. Immediately after saying that salvation is not earned through works, Paul says something incredibly important in verse ten. He writes that we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which God prepared beforehand so that we might walk in them. The word translated as workmanship carries the sense of something intentionally crafted. It communicates the idea that believers are not random or accidental. Our lives have been formed by God with care and purpose. For many creative entrepreneurs, work can quietly become the place where we try to prove our value. We chase growth, recognition, or success because we feel that our significance is tied to what we produce. Yet Paul presents a different order. First comes grace. Then identity. Only after that comes work. Our work does not establish our worth. Our work flows from who we already are in Christ. Throughout Scripture we see God using the skills and vocations of ordinary people. In the Old Testament, artisans like Bezalel were filled with the Spirit of God to create the tabernacle with beauty and craftsmanship. In the New Testament, MANY early believers were merchants, tradespeople, and craftsmen who served God faithfully through their daily work. Your creativity, leadership, and skill are NOT disconnected from your faith. They are part of how you participate in the work God is doing in the world.
