I loved Tish’s recent reminder that there are no fails in crafting. A project might not turn out as planned, but it nearly always teaches us something — even if the lesson is simply “I am never doing that again!” 😂 So, this week I’d love you to share one project that went a little bit wrong, and tell us: • What were you trying to make? • What actually happened? • Did you rescue it, repurpose it or learn something useful for next time? Bubbles, sticky resin, colour that changed completely, inclusions that floated off on their own little adventure… it all counts. Sharing the imperfect makes is often more helpful than sharing only the perfect ones, because somebody else is probably wrestling with exactly the same problem. Christmas makes have a habit of looking beautifully simple in our heads… right up until the resin decides it has other ideas! 😂 So, this week’s little challenge is to make one small test piece before committing to the “proper” project. You could test: ✨ A new Christmas colour combination ❄️ Glitter, mica or another special effect 🖼️ An image, paper or other inclusion 🫧 A mould that might trap bubbles ⏱️ The cure time for a thicker or layered pour It doesn’t need to be perfect or even useful. The whole point is to find out what works while you’re only using a small amount of resin. If you have the Printable Resin Project & Cure Log, use it to note what you tried, how much colourant you added and how long it took to cure. Your future self will be very grateful — particularly when you can’t remember whether it was “two drops” or “a bit of a squirt”! Having recently had a discussion with someone on this site about supposed fails, thought it was worth posting my opinion on supposed fails. In Crafting there are no Fails, just Work In Progress, developing skills and something even more unique We have all, wept, screamed, and possibly used inappropriate language, either during the process or on viewing the final result of a project. One persons fail can be another persons treasure. We were all once new to the craft of our choice and we all had to learn, usually the hard way, but that is the best way because that is where we learn the most, find solutions and develop new techniques and sometimes, new products. Similarly when we make a product we haven't made before. If I had a £1 for every product that didn't work out, I'd be living in the Bahamas now 😁 Slight exaggeration. That said, I have sold items that I hated and never believed would sell, but usually when viewed in person............. For those of you who sell at Craft Fairs [don't forget Tracey's Craft Fair App] there is a fair chance you will sell that hated item. Have an 'OOOOOOOOPs Box' with the items you deem to be imperfect, in your eyes, and sell them at a discounted price. You could even try to sell them on such as EBAY as an OOOOOOPs, You have nothing to lose since selling on such as EBAY is free. Be realistic about pricing but don't sell yourself short. Alternatively, put the project to one side for days, weeks even months and then go back to it; fresh eyes, fresh perspective and new ideas how to resolve potential issues. THERE ARE NO FAILS IN CRAFTING, ONLY WORK IN PROGRESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
