CR Surf Forecast: Sep Surge Fades, But A Bump Later this Week and Swell Arriving Mid-Month
September’s Surge Continues to Fade, But A Bump Later this Week is Likely… The end of September packed a bite across Central America but that swell is fading now. The leftovers from that pulse will keep average breaks waist-chest high through the end of the week. However, two storms merged in the eastern half of the Southern Pacific at the end of last week and this should deliver another respectable pop of SSW swell to Mexico and Central America the week of the 6th. …and More Size Should Arrive by Mid Month Storm activity returned near New Zealand in recent days. This should deliver low pressure dynamics to the SE Pacific in about a week. Forecast models suggest a rise in SSW swell around the 11th-12th of October. Crowds will be limited so enjoy the empty waves!

CR Surf Forecast: Modest Taper This Week Then Size Comes at Mid-Month
September is a quiet month in Costa Rica as we enter the heart of the rainy season (Sep-Oct). However, for those in the water things are looking great! Storms in the Western Pacific delivered great waves to Costa Rica at month-end. The low pressure system that sent this Labor Day swell spawned smaller storms that will keep refreshing our wave forecasts into the second week of September. The size of these waves should taper to modestly smaller than what arrived at the end of August. But get ready. We are seeing a new round of storm activity near New Zealand over the weekend, which should fully arrive in Costa Rica around the middle of September. This should boost wave heights into the 6-8ft range and see wave periods rise back into the high teens like we saw at the beginning of September. Test those leashes and get your step-ups ready. Wahoo!

CR Surf Forecast: Fun Waves for Mid-August with Size on the Way
August often brings good size surf to Costa Rica against milder days heading into the rainy season. And after a quiet close to July, the Pacific has been in motion. So far in August large, strong storms have continued to move from the Southern Ocean into the Southwest Pacific. This will result in a series of more westerly SW swells that will start arriving early next week. These will grow in size across the region on Monday the 18th, with a peak on Tuesday into Wednesday morning the 19th-20th, with widespread head high surf. Tropical cyclone activity will be minimal to non-existent, which should mean standard light wind in the mornings with some onshore for the afternoon. Going further out, the wave forecast looks to build as we head into the second half of the month. There is a second storm that is likely to move from the Southern Ocean into the SW Pacific this weekend (16th-17th). This second storm will likely open up a more favorable pattern a little deeper in the month. Latin America should start seeing the SSW swell to close out the month (starting around the 26th) with solid potential. There is a good chance this will continue to deliver elevated SSW swell during the first 5-10 days of September. Wave periods in the high teens, sets packing power, overhead waves and dreamy lines await!
