🧠 Pop Quiz — Nail Edition!
Here's your question for today: What is the medical term for inflammation of the skin around the nail? A) Onychomycosis B) Leukonychia C) Tinea pedis D) Paronychia Take a guess before scrolling! ⬇️ Answer: ✅ D — Paronychia 💡 Quick breakdown: - Paronychia = inflammation around the nail (the one you need to know!) - Onychomycosis = fungal nail infection - Tinea pedis = athlete's foot (fungal infection of the foot) - Leukonychia = white spots on the nails 🎯 These nail terms love to show up on the state board. If you can match the term to the definition, you're already ahead.

🧪 Board Prep Tip: Always Do a Patch Test!
Why do you perform a patch test before a chemical relaxer service? 🅐 To test the strength of the relaxer 🅑 To see how fast the hair will process 🅒 To check for allergies or reactions 🅓 To decide which gloves to use 👉 The answer is C! A patch test (also called a predisposition test) is done 24–48 hours BEFORE the service. You apply a small amount of the product to the skin behind the ear or inside the elbow. Why? Because some clients are allergic to the chemicals in relaxers — and you won't know until it's too late if you skip this step. 😬 Bottom line: Patch test = client safety. The board will test this. Don't skip it IRL either! 💛

💆 Board Prep Tip: Conditioning Treatments
When should you schedule a client for a between-service conditioning treatment? 🅐 Before a chemical service 🅑 During a color service 🅒 Before a haircut 🅓 After a chemical service ✅ 👉 The answer is D! Chemical services (like relaxers, perms, and color) can stress the hair out. A conditioning treatment after the service helps: 💧 Restore moisture to the hair 💪 Strengthen the hair shaft ✨ Prep the hair for future chemical services Think of it like this: after a workout, your muscles need recovery time. After a chemical service, your client's hair needs that same care. Scheduling it in keeps the hair healthy long-term! 🌿

🕯️ Board Prep Tip: Wax Consistency Check
What does properly heated wax look like when it's ready to use? 🅐 Watery and thin 🅑 Thick like peanut butter 🅒 About the thickness of caramel sauce ✅ 🅓 Solid but soft 👉 The answer is C! If your wax is too thin — it'll run, drip, and burn your client. 🔥 If it's too thick — it won't spread evenly and won't pick up the hair properly. The sweet spot? Caramel sauce consistency. Flows smoothly but coats the skin well. 💡 Pro tip for the board AND your clients: Always test wax temperature on your own inner wrist before applying it. Safety first, always!
