ADHD can be incredibly hard to manage day to day. My name is Lisa, and I’ve spent 17 years raising my son, who was diagnosed with ADHD at age 2. His symptoms were so severe that he struggled with basic daily activities, and psychiatrists rarely diagnose children that young. It affected my life too—I couldn’t keep a job because no sitter could handle him. I was constantly called home because he was overwhelmed, destructive, and out of control. By kindergarten, things were worse. The school went into lockdown twice because he tried to run and escape. A whole school shut down over one child. His psychiatrist tried several medications before finding one that finally helped him learn and live more calmly. Medication works differently for everyone; it depends on how each brain responds.
