50 Cent Bread
Lowell Lane
This is a family favorite and very versatile. This bread is delicious plain, but you can enhance the flavor by adding herbs directly to the dough, such as: Italian seasoning, garlic powder, oregano and thyme, or fresh garlic.
It used to be .50. I calculated 2025 prices @ $1.23. Still Thrifty!
Ingredients:
2 c water, 105º-110º
2 t active dry yeast
4 c flour
2 t salt
2 t butter, melted (divided)
Prepare the dough:
In a large bowl, mix the warm water and yeast with a fork until combined. Let it set till foamy.
In a separate bowl, sift together the flour and salt.
Gradually add the flour mixture to the yeast mixture, stirring until the dough is sticky but not overly wet or dry.
Cover the bowl with cheesecloth or a clean dish towel. Let it rest. Allow the dough to rise at room temperature for 1 hour.
Preheat and shape:
Preheat your oven to 450º
Oil a baking sheet, then turn the dough onto it, shaping it into a 1-inch thick rectangle.
Bake
Place the dough in the preheated oven and bake for 20 minutes.
After 10 minutes, brush the top with half of the melted butter.
Continue baking for the remaining time until the crust is golden brown.
When finished, brush the top with the remaining butter.
Cool and serve
Remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack.
