The Magic of the Empty Box
We’ve all been there as parents. You spend forty minutes researching the "perfect" educational toy, only to find your toddler ignored the gadget and spent the entire afternoon captivated by the cardboard box it came in. It feels like a missed opportunity, but it’s actually a masterclass in creativity. Did you know? Boredom is the "soil" in which imagination grows. When we stop entertaining our children every second, their brains switch from "passive mode" to "active problem-solving mode." This transition strengthens executive function, the part of the brain that helps them plan, focus, and innovate. See for yourself. Try the "Mystery Box" Challenge: Take three random items from your recycling bin, kitchen, or junk drawer. For example, an egg carton, a paper towel roll, and some junk mail, and set them on the kitchen table. Don't give instructions. Just say, "I wonder what these could be?" and walk away. Watch the boredom turn into a blueprint. If you struggle to let them be bored without the guilt? Then join us this every Sunday for our Connected Thru Play Coffee Chats. This week, we talk about "Boredom Busting." 17 May 26 8:30 am - 9:00 am ET (New York) We’re building bridges back to simple, intentional play. https://www.skool.com/connectthruplay/about?ref=ae78ccb9c3874cd9ae85d4e7fca1e29e
