Homemade Tiles

Alex, is it possible to make my own tiles out of earthen clay? I would like to make some for a kitchen and a bathroom, if possible. If so, I would also possibly paint some of them with natural paint. Then I would probably need to put a linseed sealer on the top.

Do I need to bake them? And I ask that because an earthen floor is not baked. If I had to bake them, do I need to bake/fire them at 2000 degrees? Or could I get away with a longer bake at about 800 degrees (because I have access to an oven at that temperature)?

I would like to do some experiments.
