Love in recovery
In active addiction, love can become confused with attachment, obsession, fear, and survival. We may hurt the people we love, push them away, or depend on them to fill a hole inside of us.
Recovery teaches us a different kind of love.
We learn to love ourselves enough to change.
To love others without trying to control them.
To set boundaries without feeling guilty.
To forgive without forgetting the lessons.
To walk away from what destroys our peace.
And to show love through our actions—not just our words.
Real love in recovery isn’t always comfortable. Sometimes loving someone means giving them space. Sometimes it means saying no. Sometimes it means choosing your sobriety even when someone you love doesn’t understand.
Most importantly, recovery teaches us that we don’t have to destroy ourselves to prove that we love someone.
Love should help us grow, not keep us trapped.
Today, choose love—but choose the kind of love that leads toward healing, honesty, freedom, and a better life. ❤️
