A lot of people in recovery don’t talk about this enough, there’s real grief involved in letting go of the life you used to live, even when it was destructive.
You’re not just quitting substances, you’re losing things like -
  • Old routines
  • Certain friendships
  • Your “escape”
  • A version of yourself that felt familiar
That can create confusion like -
“Why do I miss something that was hurting me?”
