Today marks the beginning of a new lunar cycle — a reminder that life moves in rhythms, not straight lines.
In Daoist philosophy, the Dao (often spelled Tao) simply means “the Way.” It’s the underlying pattern of change that moves through nature, through the seasons, and through our own lives.
The opening line of the Dao De Jing says:
“The Dao that can be named is not the eternal Dao.”
To me, this feels especially meaningful at the start of a new year. We make plans, we set intentions, we name what we want — and yet the deeper unfolding of life is always more fluid than our concepts.
The Dao invites us not to control the year ahead, but to move with it. To listen. To align. To participate in the flow of change rather than resist it.
However you celebrate, I hope this new cycle brings steadiness, clarity, and renewed vitality. 🌿
