FYSA: Forced justification not required
I'm watching Day 5 - Part 2 on formatting the book interior and it's suggested to set the justification to "force justify."
Personally, I can't stand force justification because it create rivers of white space between the words and it's actually more difficult to read that way, even if it makes clean edges at-a-glance along the sides.
I looked it up and found this below so I thought I would share that this step is not required. 😮‍💨

No, you do not need to force justify body text in a KDP ebook. While some prefer justified text for a more professional look, KDP does not recommend it and may even discourage it. Ragged-right (left-aligned) is generally preferred in ebooks, as it allows for better readability, especially when readers adjust font size and font face.
Here's why KDP discourages forced justification:
  • Reflowable Ebooks:
  • Reader Customization:
  • Look Inside Sample:
  • Potential for Excessive Gaps:
For a more professional look without forcing justification, consider:
  • Indentation: Use paragraph indentation instead of relying on justification.
  • Line Spacing: Ensure appropriate line spacing to create a comfortable reading experience.
  • Hyphenation: Use automatic hyphenation to minimize gaps at the end of lines.
Ultimately, the decision of whether or not to justify text is a matter of personal preference. However, KDP recommends against it for reflowable ebooks to ensure a consistent and readable experience for all readers.
